MANAGEMENT OF DISTANCE EDUCATION SYSTEMS: notes and characterization

This article analyzes the practice of educational management in the context of Distance Education (DE), seeking a better understanding of its particularities and origins. Based on the experiences of management in DE, the text represents a reflection exercise to understand the difficulties and strategies of an educational manager in this modality. Starting from the notions of planning, organization, direction and control of business management, the text establishes some essential elements to the manager of distance education systems. As a result, the analysis brings a brief characterization of the DE maintainer instances, seeks contributions from business management to DE management, raises some specificities of management systems in the educational context, seeks guidelines for the configuration of possible management models for DE and highlights some challenges and difficulties faced by the managers of DE in their daily work.
